In 2015, Giorgio Masio, Emanuele Olivieri, Daniele Masio, and Marco Lima were four young men with an idea: to combine their love for their homeland, Liguria, with their passion for craft beer. Before thinking about brewing, however, they knew they had to start in the fields. Their goal was to grow their own barley and hops, giving their beer a clear and distinctive origin: the inland area of Savona. They took part in the first edition of ReStartApp, an initiative by Fondazione Garrone dedicated to new businesses capable of bringing value to the Apennine region. They won first prize, and in 2016 Altavia was officially born: the first — and only — agricultural brewery in Liguria.
